Shawshank Redemption page 91-101
In the next pages of the novel we got reminded of Red being the narrator as well as a character in the story. Red recaps and goes back in the story to give us a better understanding of how Andy escaped. He explained that when Andy bought the rock hammer he had no intentions of using it to escape from Shawshank, but use it to carve into rocks as a hobby. Andy realized that he could use the rock hammer to chisel through the wall when he tried carving his initials into the wall and when doing so he discovered the concrete was very weak, and a big piece of the wall fell out. This is when the poster came in handy to him, he used it to cover up the hole in the wall and because the posters would keep decaying over time, he had to keep ordering new girls to replace the old one. In October 1967, Andys rock hobby turned into a 4 foot hole in wall. Andy didn't escape until 8 years after he realized he could actually escape. The summer of 1975 Red had gotten a postcard sent to him with no writing on it except from where it was sent from. Zihuatanejo, Mexico was where the card was sent from, and immediately Red knew it was from Andy because of there talks about that being the place Andy wants to spend the rest of his life. I liked these pages because Red had connected all the hints throughout the story and told us about how Andy manged to escape.

Tommy Williams came to Shawshank in November 1962, because of stealing, he considered himself a professional thief. After asking around Tommy had become very interested in Andy Dufresne's trail. He couldnt believe Andy had killed pro golfer Glenn Quentin. Tommy had let loose of a bunch of information to Andy he told him about how he spent some time in Rhode Island prison with a creep named Elwood Blatch who had been sent there for murder, burglary, and robbery. Blatch told Tommy about how he killed Glenn Quentin and a woman, and that some other guy (Andy) was doing the time for him. At this part in the novel we find out that Andy is accually innocent and he did not commit the murder he got sent to Shawshank because of.

Andy started working in the library and soon became the librarian, he improved the library and finally god approved for a donation check for library funds, it started at $200 and rose to $1000. By 1951 Andy was doing tax returns for half the officers at Shawshank, and by 1952 he was doing them for almost all of them. Due to this Andy became a very important person at the jail, and the guards paid him in good will. The prisons population had been growing slowly, but expanded incredibly in the 60's. Byron Hadley died of a heart attack in 1961. Andy had a poster of Rita Hayworth that hung in his cell until 1955, after that Marilyn Monroe took over until 1960, then Jayne Mansfield. A year later Hazel Court took over, then in 1966 Raquel Welch hung in his cell for 6 years. Finally the woman that had hung in his cell was Linda Ronstadt. A new warden had come into Shawshank he was the most awful, hypocritical man that held great power that had come into the place. Norton had worked at the prison for 16 long years, and everyone grew sick of him immediately.

Shawshank Redemption page 15-25
In the beginning of the book we are introduced to our 2 main characters Red, and Andy Dufresne. Shawshank Redemption Prison, is where the story takes place and where the 2 of them currently are. Red is the narrator, aswell as a character in this story. Red tells us about his background and why he is at Shawshank, aswell as he tells us about Andy and why he's there. Red is at Shawshank serving three life sentences because while intending to kill his wife by cutting the breaks on her car, he also kills a lady and her child whom his wife picked up after getting in her car; all three of them died. Andy is at the prison because he is believed to have killed his wife and her lover whom she was cheating on him with. We aren't 100% sure is he did it yet. I liked the beginning of the book mostly because it made me want to keep reading. I can't wait to continue!

Shawshank Redemption page 35-48
Andys troubles with the sisters still continued, althought it wasent as brutal or as often, and andy always kept fighting back. Eventually it ended all together after 3 years due to one of the sisters getting burtaling injured by a mysterious source and therefor he got sent to a mental hospital institution. Besides Andys problems with the sisters, he had asked Red for a half dozen rock blankets and a Rita Hayworth poster. Red has way of getting things, his specialty is booze, cigarretts, female posters and the reefer. Together Red and Andy got chosen to repaire the roof of the licence-plate factory. While repairing the roof Andy over heard Greg Stammas, Byron Hadley and George Dunahg (the prisons gaurds, wardens and prison administrators) talking about money that Hadleys brother left to him in his will, but was complining about how taxes will eat most of it up. Andy walked over to Hadley and asked him if he trusted his wife. At first Hadley freked out and almost pushed him off the roof, but when Andy told him that he could help him keep all the money Hadley listened and bought him a bunch of beers to share with his friends. Banking is Andys secret talent nobody really knows about..yet.

Shawshank Page 80-91
Red talks about different people who are in or who have been imprisoned in Shawshank. Some of the people who were named are Sid Nedeau, he escaped from the jail, Henley Backus who came into shawshank in 1922 and died 31 years later with 400 attempts at escaping. 10 inmates had gotten away between 1938 to when Red had gotten there. in 1975 Andy mysteriously escaped from Shawshank and hasn't been recaptured. Norton was freaking out on everyone because he was so furious about the disappearance of Andy Dufresne. Norton stormed around Andys cell searching for any clues on how he could have disapeared, and found nothing. He found himself stairing at a poster of Linda Ronstadt that andy had kept on his wall from the very first day he entered shawshank. He ripped the poster down and found a tunnel that had been dug threw the wall. we found out that that was how Any had mysteriously disappear's, he got blueprints of the jail and he had to crawl threw a sewer full of poo and then threw a small pipe which to his benefit no one else could seem to fit threw.
Shawshank Redemption page 68-80
In these 10 pages Andy Dufresne is getting tired of the jail, and he is missing being in the free world. He thinks that Norton made a deal with someone in order to move Tommy Williams from Shawshank to Cashman jail. Tommy was a very important aspect to helping Andy win his trial and be proven innocent but now that he is gone Andy feels helpless. A reason Norton could have done this is because he needs any to take care of all his secretive banking business that goes on in the library. Now that Norton thinks he has Andy in his power he is ordering him around forcing him to do dirty work and if Andy doesn't follow Norton's request, then his life at Shawshank will be more miserable then it already is. Later on Andy talks to Red about what he wants to do with his life and where he wants to go when he gets out of prison. He tells red about how his money is still safe with an unknown man names Peter Stevens. Stevens set up a false identity in order to keep his money safe and not condemned when he entered prison. Andy can not get his money from Stevens while he is in prison and because his friend who had been helping him had died 6 years ago, he has no way of reclaiming all of his money and if he tried on his own he would loose all of it. Andy needs his money in order to hire a good enough lawyer and privet investigator to build a strong case on proving his innocence. At the end of the 10 pages Andy had made a proposal to Red about him coming with Andy when he gets out of prison to go to mexico and live in the fabulous hotel Andy plans on buying.
