Tommy Williams came to Shawshank in November 1962, because of stealing, he considered himself a professional thief. After asking around Tommy had become very interested in Andy Dufresne's trail. He couldnt believe Andy had killed pro golfer Glenn Quentin. Tommy had let loose of a bunch of information to Andy he told him about how he spent some time in Rhode Island prison with a creep named Elwood Blatch who had been sent there for murder, burglary, and robbery.  Blatch told Tommy about how he killed Glenn Quentin and a woman, and that some other guy (Andy) was doing the time for him.
